CAPE WATCH: What To Expect From The Big Two This Week

Welcome to Cape Watch. This is a weekly column where we tell you about the major super-hero releases from the two biggest comic book publishers in the industry. Without further ado, here’s what to look for from DC and Marvel in the week of April 2, 2014:

DC

“Action Comics #30″

A new issue for the creative team of Greg Pak and Aaron Kuder, following the events of the Forever Evil story arc. Superman is set to confront some of his most dangerous villains here, including Lex Luthor and Doomsday, who has come over from the Phantom Zone.

“Detective Comics #30″

The creative team behind The Flash, writer Brian Buccellato and artist Francis Manapul, are taking over Detective Comics with this new issue, as Batman investigates the mystery behind a deadly new drug that has hit Gotham’s streets.

“Earth 2 #22″

In the alternate reality of Earth 2, written by Tom Taylor with art by Scott Nicola, our heroes seem doomed. But when all looks lost, Green Lantern returns!

“Green Arrow #30″

In the fifth part of The Outsiders War, Arrow and Robert are in dire straits as they face a mob of Outsiders. Can our heroes prevail? Only writer Jeff Lemire and artist Andrea Sorrentino have the answer.

“Green Lantern #30″

In the newest issue of Robert Venditti‘s and Billy Tan‘s Green Lantern, Hal Jordan is facing the Khund, a bloodthirsty cosmic military force that’s set on destroying the Green Lanterns. In a mysterious twist, Jordan has volunteered to fight these menaces without his power ring!

“Swamp thing #30″

In this latest issue of Charles Soule‘s and Jesus Saiz‘s Swamp Thing, Alec Holland has to contemplate the offer given to him by the Sureen: to turn him human. What will the consequences be? Can Alec truly accept life without being the Swamp Thing?

Marvel

“Black Widow #5″

In Nathan Edmonson‘s and Phil Noto‘s latest issue of Black Widow, Natasha Romanov is racing around the world and against the clock to thwart a dark plot threatening Europe. With nowhere else to go, the red-headed Russian superspy has to turn to The Raven for help.

“Captain America #19″

Writer Rick Remender and artist Nic Klein bring readers this latest issue of Captain America. With SHIELD’s ultimate weapon falling into the hands of The Iron Nail and Cap trapped in the Dr. Mindbubble’s twisted mindscape, The Falcon and Jet Black have a difficult choice to make, in a story that promises to change Steve Rogers’ life forever!

“Inhuman #1″

Writer Charles Soule makes his second appearance on this week’s Cape Watch with this new Marvel book, this time collaborating with artist Joe Madureira. In “Inhuman #1″ a cloud of Terrigen mist is moving across earth, turning regular people into super-powered Inhumans.
Marvel is promoting this book as their next big franchise, which raises the question: could this be a subtle hint at Inhumans joining the Marvel cinematic universe?

“Moon Knight #2″

Warren Ellis‘s and Declan Shalvey‘s hit new series continues, as Marc Spector keeps on kicking but in an all-white suit. Stains? Dirt? Moon Knight doesn’t care! He’s craaaaazy!

“She-Hulk #3″

Charles Soule has his third and final showing here this week, working with artist Javier Pulido to create issue #3 of She-Hulk. In this issue, Jen Walters seeks to smash Dr. Doom…’s legal case! Doom’s son is seeking extradition, and She-Hulk is ready to Fight…for legal justice through proper procedures! Plus, a teased appearance from Matt Murdock, Marvel’s other preeminent lawyer.

“Ultimate Spider-Man #200″

Brian Michael Bendis, creator and writer of Ultimate Spider-Man, brings readers this oversized anniversary issue. Collaborating with Bendis are a slew of artists, including Dave Marquez, Mark Brooks, Sara Pichelli, David Lafuente and series co-creator and longtime artist Mark Bagley, who also drew the cover. As the world mourns Peter Parker’s death, a gathering of his friends and foes results in some surprising revelations about Peter and his world. A milestone issue that Marvel has teased as containing “One of the biggest surprise endings of the year.”
